Application

So day one of simplifying and I wiped the calendar clean, literally.

  • I skipped my bible study where Will would typically go to childcare and I took him to the park to play with him. just us.
  • I cancelled a desperately needed hair appointment for tomorrow. (because it was at a time that was going to cause a rush in the schedule)
  • I declined an invitation to a fancy purse auction with amazing prizes tonight.
  • I declined an invitation to get a mani/pedi on Thursday because I have a date with my 2 year old already.
  • I cooked dinner at noon
  • I let Audrey have a playdate at our house today with 2 school friends she’s been asking for
  • ….I was calm, unfrazzled and happy when Charles got home from work to a very peaceful home.

I love that there are so many options here and we have an unlimited ideas and fun things to do, but balance was needed.  It is odd that it used to be the other way around… that the kids were driving me nuts and I needed something for myself – but right now it is making me upset that I wasn’t able to spend enough time with my kids…I wanted and needed to reconnect with them and slow things down a bit I had to (difficultly) say no to others so that I could say yes to them.  Balance, indeed.

Here are some pictures of our day:

*don’t judge me for the no car seat thing… they all ‘had’ to be the same and I don’t have three.. we live VERY close to the school. SmileTheir mom’s were okay with it.

arts and crafts! doing their names in glue and glitter.. remember doing that?! also used a muffin tin to organize beads so they could make necklaces and bracelets – the condiment dish had grapes, animal crackers and pineapples.

looks like a perfectly wonderful day. Good for you for saying no. I was tempted on the purse auction too.....but with a PTA meeting and my husband wanting to play soccer - I had to do two "no's" and only one "yes". Balance is good!

so proud of you! It's a lesson I think we could all learn. I've said no to quite a few things this year to have time for my family and it is HARD!
