Short Stories

I wanted to share a couple of cute little situations that have happened here.. the first two involving a taxi, since we took them so often… I say ‘took’ since we finally got a car!! :) We will be sharing one vehicle.. charles has a drivers license here, but I don’t have mine yet – so looks like I’ll still be doing the taxi thing for a while.  At least he can drive me to the grocery store!! :) Ah the little things.

One afternoon (after being cooped up wayyyy too long) I decided to take the kids out for a walk.  I had Will on my hip and I’m holding hands with Audrey, we walked around and around to see if there was anything fun to do within walking distance since I was frustrated with Will throwing crazy fits in the taxi’s.. After we had been walking a while I noticed he kept raising his hand and yelling, “MEEEE!” He had done this 5 or 6 times and I realized he was doing it every time a taxi drove by.  He was trying to get us a cab! :)  He picked up on  the idea if you raise your hand, a taxi comes to pick you up.. I laughed out loud.

The day before that happened, the call to prayer was going on.. see below for a link to what it sounds like… It is loud and is projected all over the city 5 times a day.  To me, it is a huge reminder that we aren’t in America anymore… it sounds like something off of a movie. It isn’t a bother or anything, just foreign.  Audrey heard it and said, “Mama, what is that sound? Do you hear it?”  I told her, “That is their way to remind people it is time to pray.” She said,”OH! I know how to pray!” and preciously folded her hands and bowed her head. then she got a big smile from mama… so sweet.

Last night she asked, “Is God here in Abu Dhabi?” I answered, “Yes, Audrey, God is always with us.”  Then she asked, “Is it the same God that was in Sugar Land?” I answered, “Of Course it is, God is with us no matter where we go.”

here is the call to prayer at the Grand Mosque – this is the 3rd Largest one in the world but the only one to allow non Muslims in everyday except Friday. I didn’t take this video, just searched You Tube for one.
