Today was a special day for first graders. They had a writing celebration day and invited parents to come and read their stories. As I sat down and listened to Audrey’s, she enthusiastically began reading word by word out loud to me and when she got to the part about the main character, my heart stopped and my eyes welled up. The main character’s name was “Mimi.” I fought back the shock and emotion, praised her hard work on her story and then asked, “where did you come up with the name?” I expected her to say something about her late great grandma, but she just said, “I don’t know, mom, I just thought of it.” Then I realized, she was too little to remember her. Audrey was only 1 when my Mimi passed, and this Christmas Eve’s eve will mark 5 years…
I felt my grandmother’s presence for the first time since she died… The feeling is hard to describe, but it was of comfort and peace… tears fell as the Christmas music played in my car all the way home. I know it was a wink from heaven.
Merry Christmas, Mimi and Happy 5 year anniversary in Heaven… tell Jesus Happy Birthday for us!
