I have been procrastinating blogging about the summer – partly because Will still hasn’t started preschool here and keeping him busy has kept me pretty busy and partly because I’ve gotten too good at moving forward without looking backward. It is a mental thing with me… I guess sort of a coping mechanism for doing this life. I do realize that I will have lots of wonderful newness to post about VERY VERY soon {baby J} so I better get with it and take care of these blogs before they are pushed aside indefinitely. It is important to me that I document our summers and our time with family – I just LOVE to look back on what we did, where we went and all the fun memories in between.
So here we go~!
We ventured over to Baton Rouge to meet up with my sister, her boyfriend (Jon) and my brother on our way to Orange Beach (my in-laws have a condo there). The kids and I got there in time for a fun filled lunch at Chuck –E-Cheese. The kids had a blast and so did the adults – We started to play the games more than Audrey and Will did.
^^All her goodies she got from cashing in her tickets After our lunch we headed over to the movie theater and watched Ice Age 3 together. Will slept thru about 75% of it – poor guy was exhausted.
That night we stayed at Kari’s house, cooked shrimp & corn bisque and just hung out. It was a great day! The next morning, the kids and I packed up and headed out to complete our journey to Orange Beach, AL. My MIL and SIL had already been there for a few days and we were catching them on the tail end of their trip. We got there lunchtime Monday and left on Wednesday afternoon – a QUICK trip to say the least! It was short but sweet.
Here is a pic of Audrey reuniting with cousin Alivia
The kids were beach bound in no time!
Tuesday morning we went on a kiddie pirate cruise – they kids loved it!
Back to the beach!
We did the typical, back and forth business from beach to pool and pool to beach, changing clothes, rinsing off, sunscreen on, and repeat cycle. Beaches with little ones are so exhausting for mama. As much fun as it was, I was thankful that we did a short trip since I was pregnant, hot, tired of bending down and going up and down the stairs a bazillion times. The kids favorite thing while we were there was jumping waves – they did it for HOURS. Thank God for Aunt Angela – she and I traded kids some and I gladly took nap/bottle/feeding duty inside with Alivia while she played outside with my two crazies. The afternoons were really nice there and that is when I took them to the pool and wore them out. On our way back to Lake Charles, we broke up our trip again by staying in Baton Rouge at Kari’s house. We got there late in the evening and then headed out the next a.m. to meet up with a college friend of mine, Philisha and her kids. I hadn’t seen her in YEARS and it was so nice to reconnect!
My kids were SOOO Exhausted from their whirlwind trip to the beach and back that they were not even interested in playing in the bouncy house place. After constant whining, crying and correction we decided to just go ahead and get on the road back to Lake Charles. We were all pooped.
A couple of days later, Audrey attended a cheer camp at LCCT in Lake Charles. She LOVED it. It was soooo precious!! The owner and I used to cheer together in high school so it was fun to bring Audrey there and learn some of mama’s old moves. LOL.
I gotta work on those donut holes facing forward…!
On the last day of the camp, We got to go and watch what they learned.. here is Mere and Will watching Sissy:
A video of the dance they learned:
I just crack up when watching this… how adorable is this?!
Afterward, Audrey went to work at Mere’s store- ThreadWorks – she LOVED going to work with her grandma!
Later that night we were finally reunited with DADDY!!!!!!!!! At this point we had gone 6 weeks without seeing him {TOO LONG!} – I cannot explain to you how WONDERFUL it was to see him, see the kids with him and just all be together again! We were so EXCITED!!!
Audrey was a bit emotional… Will was pumped up – the differences between a girl and a boy!! The days leading up to Charles’ return Will just would not stop talking about him. “MY daddy this and MY daddy that” – it was adorable and pitiful all at the same time. My heart ached for my hubby but also for my kids missing their daddy.
Here is Charles meeting his niece, Alivia for the first time:
Here is just a fun lagniappe picture of Audrey – Our little Hippy Chick.
Next Post will be about a family reunion, Cajun Palms camp ground, Audrey’s 6th Birthay and our Return trip to Abu Dhabi
